In our defense, the Dodgers have only lost three home games and have incredible defense. Additionally, we didn't have Reyes, Delgado or Cora. In the top of the 11th inning with two out, the poor Met ran over the base instead of on it, making the unearned run into an out. It was just humiliating and Church should feel ashamed. Below is the Post-Game Extra from SNY, where you could see Church and Jerry's reaction did the unbelievable error. Jerry comments:

"Uhh, a guy missed third base. That’s unbelievable. I can’t explain why or how or anything. But, he actually missed the base… To me, it’s just hard to miss third base. I’ve known some guys to miss first, because they’re looking for the ball and misstep, but I have rarely, I don’t know that I’ve ever seen a guy miss third base in a situation like that. I don’t know, I don’t have any explanation"

If the top of the 11th inning wasn't sad enough, the bottom of the inning definitely topped off the Mets embarrassment. 'Brian Stokes walked the lead-off hitter, who advanced to second the following play when Angel Pagan and Carlos Beltran did not communicate on a pop up that dropped between them for a hit. Jerry Manuel intentionally walked Juan Pierre, and then put Beltran on the infield next to second base, as the rest of the infield played in on the edge of the grass. Stokes got a weak pop up for one out, then got the desired hard ground ball to first, which could have been a double play, but Reed, who is not necessarily a skilled first baseman, and who made a nice scoop, chucked the ball low, wide and past Ramon Castro, letting the winning run score.' Beltran said of the error:

"I called for the ball like six times,But Pagan stood in the middle and I couldn't put my glove on the ball. On a ball like that, I have priority. If Pagan would have called for that ball, my job is to get out of the way. He's been in center field before, so he knows that when the center fielder calls for the ball, everyone has to get out of the way."

Even though we've lost the last two games, at least we're still in first place!! :)

Where Is Our Line-Up?

With Carlos Delgado, Jose Reyes, Alex Cora, Tim Redding, Oliver Perez and Brain Schneider on the DL our line-up has been all sorts of funky for the last couple of games. Jerry has not been making the smartest positioning decisions for his players... I wonder who's going to take first base position. He basically said what most Mets fans don't want to admit- its difficult to have confidence in the extremely inconsistent team right now. The Mets blogger said:

"I don't really trust this team anymore because I really don't know what they're going to do from night to night. I know people like to say 'oh its early, its a long season' but I think deep down inside, for Mets fans, I don't know if we believe that anymore."

Matt runs a poll on his blog once a week on the fans confidence in the Mets and this week it was at a very low 50%. Sadly, he says he's not surprised to see this and I guess he's right. I'm not surprised to see our confidence drop for the Mets- I'm more just disappointed to see it.

The blogger also said that not surprisingly, fans have most confidence in Johan Santana. And another not so surprising poll taken from about 3000 people said 96% of them were most worried about Perez. I'm waiting for the day when Jerry finally sends him down to the AAA. He might have talent hidden away in him but right now hes not delivering and he doesn't belong in the Major Leagues. It won't be long until he is replaced.
Penny for your thoughts- You think they might bring back up Neise?

My Squidoo Lense

My Squidoo Page On The 2009 New York Mets

I name the active roster for the Mets and roughly discuss the starting pitchers.

Mr. Red vs. Mr Met

I recently realized that Cincinnati Reds have a mascot that looks very similar if not exactly like the New York Mets mascot, except Mr. Red has a mustache and Mr. Met does not(and is way cuter!)
I was very confused when I saw this and decided to do some research to see which mascot came first and who was coping whom. To my disappointment I found out that Mr. Red was created first in 1955 BUT Mr. Met was the first human mascot to be used in American Sports which was in 1963. He was the first in-stadium mascot while Mr. Red was originally only a sleeve patch and was then removed a few seasons later. Mr. Red didn't reappear until 1999, way after Mr. Met was already the Mets mascot. In the 1960s, the Mets mascot occasionally appeared in print with a female version of him, Mrs. Met. How cute! Mr. Met has a wife.

And if a Mr. and Mrs. Met isnt already too adorable, they have three kids! His performance with the Mets is nothing less then impressive and successive. His first at bat with the Mets playing against the Brewers, the backup catcher hit a triple. But that was nothing compared to last nights game against the Marlins, 7-1 Mets. In the first inning, the Mets scored 6 runs! Santos hit his first big league home run which was also the Mets' first grand slam at Citifield!

After the Mets big win last night against the Marlins, the manager Jerry Manuel spoke to reporters about Santos:

“He does make it tough for us. We want to take a good look at him. We felt spring training was not really a good measuring stick for players… He has performed good here, so it will make for a tough decision in that sense. I like what he gives us… I think he handles the game plan very well. The pitchers like throwing to him. He gives them a good target, he gives the umpire a very good look at pitches. And, he also appears to have a short swing, which means he can put some balls in play and he doesn’t run badly for a catcher. So, those are some other things you can do with offensively that you’re somewhat limited to with some catchers.”

Whats going to happen on Friday when Brain comes back? Its hard to tell. Manuel is considering having three catchers on the roster which I find unnecessary and to be a fairly bad idea. My take on this is to sign Santos and have Castro as a backup. I have never been in favor of Castro, as his defense is weak. In an article on MLB.com, written by Anthony DiComo it says
"Castro's multitude of injuries throughout his Mets tenure have cast doubt on his ability to be an everyday catcher, in turn solidifying Schneider's position on the depth chart."

I love Schneider and I love Santos and I think that's all we need for our catchers. Castro doesnt bring anything phenomenal to the Mets and I think its time to let him go.

Podcast 2: Interview With David Johnson/Sports Analysis

Ryan Church Is Anti-Semitic Or Just Ignorant?

I just found out that Ryan Church, the left outfielder for the Mets is an Anti-Semite. I was totally shocked to hear this being that I am Jewish and a huge Mets fan. Also aside from the fact that Antisemitism is ridiculously inappropriate and discrimination should not be tolerated in professional baseball or anywhere for that matter. In 2005 when he played for the Washington Nationals, Church was quoted in the Washington Post, suggesting that Jews are headed for eternal damnation. Apparently, he confronted the baseball chaplain Jon Moeller, asking for advice about his Ex-girlfriend who was Jewish.

"I said, like, Jewish people, they don't believe in Jesus. Does that mean they're doomed? Jon nodded, like, that's what it meant. My ex-girlfriend! I was like, man, if they only knew. Other religions don't know any better. It's up to us to spread the word,"

Of course after he came out with an apology but in truth his words can't be taken back. Being that Church plays for the New York Mets and the vast majority of their fans are Jewish, he's just an idiot. He honestly isn't even that good! Aside from his remark being anti-Semitic, it's absurdly ignorant for him to say that. You can't play for a New York team, one of the most diverse cities out there and be so close-minded. His narrow religious beliefs should not be outspoken and he should go suck it! GET OUT OF NEW YORK! I never liked Church anyways...

Viral Marketing Students Videos

Pavani Srinivasan's Video

Focus on French Cinema presents its fifth annual French Film Festival (April 3, 4, & 5 2009) at Purchase College's Performing Arts Center with notable guest Sophie Marceau!

Tickets can be purchased at focusonfrenchcinema.org

Come enjoy the show!

[Video Directed by Mattson Tomlin - mattsontomlin.blogspot.com]

Michelle Jun's Video

Iquail Shaheed's Rehearsal (his choreography)

8 PM, Dance Theatre Lab, Dance Bldg., $5

The Conservatory of Dance presents a concert of repertory and original choreography in both ballet and modern dance produced by first-year MFA candidates. The first game this Monday was cold and windy but Santana, Green, Putz and K-Rod led the Mets to win 2-1. The second game, Pelfrey was shaky right from the beginning of the game, pitching a wopping 44 pitching in just the first inning but was able to get it together and the Mets had another victory leaving the score at 9-7.

The third game was less impressive as Perez was nervous, giving up 5 walks, 5 hits and 8 runs to the Reds over his 4 1/3 innings. Out of the 100 pitches he pitched, 45% of them were balls. Comon Ollie!

The Mets pitching coach, Dan Warthen said;

"I thought we saw the good Ollie for two innings. We'd just like to see it for five or six,"

Jerry Manuel spoke about Perez's disappointing game:

"I was happy that we saw some glimpses of the old Ollie…Again, this is still an evaluating period, and it is also part of spring. So, I think he’ll be fine. I think there was enough there to say he’ll be OK; he just has to remain consistent and focus for a longer period of time, but that comes with being out there and getting extended. He should be OK… There are probably some things he missed in spring that he’s trying to work out.”

Below is the SNY.tv’s Post Game Extra that shows analysis from Ron, Keith and Gary from their loss to the Reds.

Despite yesterdays loss, winning 2 out of 3 games on the road is still very impressive and shows the mets are in impeccable shape this season. The Mets head down to Miami to play against the Marlins who are 3 for 3 this season and beat us out of the Playoffs last season. The game starts at 7:10 with Maine pitching up against Sanchez. What I'm really excited for is to see Hernandez pitch tomorrow! I'm happy that in the end it's not Pedro pitching. Lets sweep this series and finally have the first game at CitiField (tax-payers field) April 13. LETS GO METS!
Jonathan Niese, 22 was not ready for the big boy Major Leagues just yet and was sent down the Minor Leagues this past Friday to play for the Buffalo Bisons. Redding, Garcia, Hernandez, Martinez and Niese were all fighting for the fifth starter position but the spot was finally given to Livan Hernandez when John left for the AAA.

Niese has started for the Mets three times at the end of last season and has produced a 6.75 ERA in the Grapefruit League. During Spring Training Niese has walked seven and given up two home runs- eh. Honestly, it was a long shot chance for him to become the 5th starter, especially going up against Hernandez's pitching consistency.

We knew that Garcia had no shot as he gave away thirteen runs and built up an outrageously bad 16.71 ERA. Redding was out due to his injury in his shoulder. Martinez wasn't going to get it because of his greedy demands for a high paying contract. And now with Niese out of the competition, the spot is handed to Hernandez who has developed a great 3.07 ERA. The general manager, Omar Minaya says that if it wasn't for Livan's success, John would still be in the Majors.

Minaya said;

"If you tell me that Jonathon Niese is going to pitch in the Major Leagues tonight, I'd feel very comfortable. We could have easily kept him here longer."

Playing in the Minor league, Niese will be able to work on his pitching and be able to pitch more AAA game innings. Niese just has to develop better control and a better fastball. Once he does that, he'll be able to come back to play with the big boys. I think there's a very high chance that we will even see him by Fall season.

John understands the reasons for his cut and said:

"It's an honor any time you go to big league camp. I learned a lot. I've still got a lot to learn, a lot to work on. I'm disappointed -- not at anyone else, but myself. It's just one of those deals."
It's sad because I think Jon deserves the starter position. He was rated the Mets #3 organizational prospect by Baseball America. I hope his stay in the AAA is a short one!

Pedro was once a great pitcher with an attitude: Now all he’s left with is his attitude.

In the video above, Ted Berg from SNY sat down with Alex Belth from BronxBanter.com, in this week’s New York Baseball Today. Aside from talking about the Yankee Alex Rodriguez, they discussed Pedro Martinez and the drama over his contract. Martinez is complaining over the small-sum, incentive-based deal to sign as the 5th starter. He is demanding a guaranteed, higher paying contract or he will not play for the Mets. The Daily News yesterday quoted Pedro saying:

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 160px; height: 200px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_8I56jed08o0/Sbc49KujX8I/AAAAAAAAADE/LcsfOKit_xQ/s200/pedro.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5311776909009575874" />"Yeah, I would like to be back (with the Mets). But I'm not just gonna follow the Mets. They have their own plans and they have their own thought process."

"Yes, I would love to go (to Citi Field) and hopefully have the same success I had at Shea. Shea was a great stadium for me. I hope the new Shea pretty much follows up on the old one."

"But I have my goals and I have my things that I want to achieve in life. If it's not with the Mets, it will be with someone else. But if they want a fifth starter who's been there - I don't know how much they want me - I'm available."

The manager for the Mets, Jerry Manuel told reporters today,

“Pedro is a Hall of Fame pitcher and one of the greatest pitchers of our time, but I feel very confident in the people we have in camp that they can get the job done. Do you like Pedro? Of course, you love Pedro. But you have to be fair to the people that we have here.”

Pedro is one of the best pitchers from his time and for his age, throwing fastballs as hard as 91 mph on the radar gun. But in my opinion, there are two major issues signing the world famous Martinez as the 5th Starter for the Mets:

1. His age and his susceptibility to injury. Pedro's injury history is not one of the best and at his age, he is only becoming less and less flexible and more and more prone to injury. Take last year for example, he was pumped, trained and ready to win 15 games and blew it right away with his injury. Over the past three years, the Mets have spent nearly $35 mill on his lousy control-less pitches and multiple rehab injuries.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 176px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_8I56jed08o0/Sbc5ovi9RYI/AAAAAAAAADM/oPc4_QrgBHs/s200/shea-stadium-seats.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5311777657627428226" />Even though he is capable at his age to pitch fastballs at 90 mph, he still has no control over his pitches. Honestly, whenever he opened last year, I would be at the edge of my green mezzanine seat (I miss Shea!) in fear and doubt. Strikes were surprising and walks/hits were expected from him.

Right now, they are going for fresh and young new players to deliver the Mets and I think it’s their best bet.

2. The economy this day and age is horrendous. At a time when we are in one of the deepest recessions, Pedro is going to stomp his feet, whine and put up a fight over more money? I think that's more than just selfish considering the current economic/financial situation, the several millions we have already given him in the past three years for undelivered pitches and the fact that he is actually being offered deal at all. I think Martinez is displaying a horrible greedy athlete characteristic. He needs to stop crying over not being able to afford another Lamborghini and realize his age, the economy, and his current lack of talent and just take the incentive-based deal.

Ted Berg says in the New York Today Baseball interview, that even though he is one of the best pitchers of all time, Pedro is "nuts" to look at the economy right now and not take a small sum of money in order to play. He hasn’t done anything in years and if he wants to come back to the Mets, he needs to take a pay cut. With his injury and age concern, he needs to, "swallow some pride and take the deal or go fishing."

Really Cute Video Of Children Singing We Will Rock You

Santana Aims to Pitch Opening Day

<img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; not being able to pitch Opening Day due to stiffness in his left elbow, Johan reported yesterday that with the help of Dan Warthen (his pitching coach), he is making healthy progress and is shooting towards starting the Opening Day game on April 6.

Santana Said;
<span style="font-style: italic; I know exactly what it takes for me to be ready. I've been doing this for a long time. I'm pretty sure I'll be ready."

Unlike Santana, Warthen displayed some doubt over a full recovery by April 6 and discussed the possibility of Santana making his first regular season start just 2 few days later, in the second series against the Marlins. Jerry Manuel, the manager of the Mets reported confidence in Santana;

"Johan knows Johan, and he assures me that he'll be ready for Opening Day. So I have to agree with that. I don't see any reason why there should be any different plans than that. Not this first week in March when he just lit your eyes up on the sideline. You have templates that you like to follow. Everybody don't fit those templates. That's why he is who he is. They don't fit him."

Santana is not only the best pitcher on the Mets, some say he is the best player. Being that, we could not afford to lose Johan by carelessly playing him before he is fully healed. He should focus on his starts and less on what order they are in, whether first, second or third game. Regardless of if he will be fit to play April 6 or not, what is most important is that he makes his 34 starts this season.

I'm Bringing the Cookies to Santelli's Tea Party

Rick Santelli, an analyst for CNBS on the floor of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange gave an outraged rant on Thursday opposing President Obama’s $75 billion mortgage homeowner bailout plan proposal. Santelli strongly believes that Obama’s administration is spreading moral hazard and that his proposal is a leap towards nationalizing the mortgage market. He says: “Government is promoting bad behavior. . . . Do we really want to subsidize the losers’ mortgages? This is America! How many of you people want to pay for your neighbor’s mortgage? President Obama, are you listening? How about we all stop paying our mortgages! It’s a moral hazard.” Santelli is so fed up with the new administrations that he called for a new Tea Party.

I think Santelli is absolutely right! It’s about time that someone speaks out against Obama nationalizing our country! The plan proposed is for the relief of people who overextended their mortgages- not for the people who responsibly purchased houses in which they KNEW they could afford. But where is everyone else’s relief?!? EVERYONE is in a financial crisis right now- EVERYONE is hurting! Everyone needs financial aid right now- not just the people who irresponsibility overextended themselves. It’s absurd that the government is giving aid to the people who made ignorant, irresponsible, greedy decisions yet don’t give any consideration to responsible homeowners and borrowers.

And where is Obama going to get the money to pay for yet another bail-out plan? Taxes are going will be raised for the middle class who like everyone else, is already in financial ruins. The middle class is going to have to pay for everyone else’s greed. Santelli say, “How many people want to pay for their neighbor’s mortgage who has an extra bathroom and can’t pay their bills?” And he’s right! People who work hard, saved and sacrificed their budget to meet their financial obligations should not have to pay for people who overextended themselves and now are foreclosed homeowners! The people who played by the rules shouldn’t have to pay for someone else’s irresponsible mess. Obama is going to tax the middle class out of existence and then when the middle class disappears, who’s going to bail us out? When he squeezes out the middle class, there’s not going to be anyone left to pay for America’s stimulus and aid.

Obama has no clue what to do next and everything he proposes blocks economic recovery: Not one job is going to be created through his stimulus package- not one. The new administration comes up with unrealistic plans that are only going to hurt our economy more. Obama plans to cut our federal deficit but at the same time, increase government spending to aid banks, stimulate the economy and have universal health care- how does that work out?!?!

The belief on Wall-St is that the government is absolutely clueless and when Wall-St. collapses, Obama’s not going to be able to do anything. How could we depend on our president to lead us out of a recession if he has no economic knowledge and experience? He’s going to economically kill the middle class with his dangerous socialist tendencies and not only block economic recovery but drive our country straight into a depression. You could count me in for Santelli’s Tea Party... In fact I'll be bringing the cookies!

1:1 Interview with David Eisenman, Internet Marketing Expert.

I sat down with my brother, David Eisenman who works in a field that is closely related to my Viral Marketing class. I interviewed him, regarding his occupation and discussed helpful tools for social networking/boosting traffic. David is employed by Acronym Media, one of the leading global search engine marketing companies and is involved in many aspects of internet marketing.

Where do you work and what do you do?
I work for Acronym Media, a Search Marketing company located in the Empire State Building as the Lead Technology Strategist. I manage the development of proprietary web applications and technology products for both in house use, and for our Fortune 500 client base.

What did you study in college and do you use that knowledge in your current work?
I majored in Business Administration with a concentration in Corporate Finance. I would say I use my business knowledge to help assess our clients needs as well as to manage large groups of people.

How did you make the jump from finance to internet marketing?
I often ask that question to myself, and it's kind of hard to answer. I actually received Series 7 and Series 63 Financial Licenses even before I had began college and I was really into the financial industry from the start of my college career. During my years at college I found myself drawn the the web, and began to start a few online ventures which would eventually turn very profitable, after I made my first dollar I was hooked, and upon graduating decided that online marketing was my true calling.

How does one get into this field of work?
It's hard for me to say, when I was in school there were very few courses on online marketing, and the industry is so fast-paced and dynamic that it constantly changes which I imagine can make courses hard to develop as they become obsolete very quickly. I'm sure however, that there are a lot more classes and resources today than when I was in school (a little over a year ago). I'm somewhat self-taught in that respect, there are literally thousands of fantastic online resources that have been helpful in getting me acclimated with online marketing.

Do you feel that online marketing is more effective than traditional forms of marketing?
In a lot of respects, yes.

How?
Online Marketing, specifically Search Marketing, by nature is very calculable, meaning you can track each dollar spent, and see its direct results. Your ROI (return on investment) is much more visible than running traditional media. Say you buy a billboard, you can never be sure how effective it is since it's somewhat hard to tell if your customers are buying your product because of that ad or from another influence. With the analytics available online, you can be sure that your money is being spent efficiently, and you have much more insight into the path in which it comes back to you.

What do you recommend to a beginner blogger how to increase their visibility on the internet?
First and foremost, it's important to write interesting articles! Secondly, try to leverage social networking to make your articles more visible and accessible to people around the web. Show off your articles to your friends on Facebook and Myspace, and post them to social news sites such as Digg.com and Reddit.com for additional exposure.

The End Of Juicy Campus: The Beginning Of CollegeACB

The famous college gossip website, JuicyCampus was shut down this past week. The website was very similar to the Gossip Girl website on CWB's hit television show, Gossip Girl. The foul website was the college version of US Weekly. Students from colleges worldwide could anonymously post topics about any gossip in their school and can comment on other posts as well. Students would crudely bash one another: They anonymously discuss the hottest guys/girls on campus, the biggest sluts, losers, rejects, ect- all and any crude and vulgar topics they choose. For example, one of the most popular posts from SUNY Purchase was titled, “Who gives the most BJ’s” and students anonymously named people who they thought to be promiscuous- publicly ruining the persons’ name.

As the infamous website was shut down in the past week, some people are thankful and relieved that their worst traits and mistakes will not be publicly talk about and spread web-wide, while other, more ignorant students are upset and outraged that their ‘Perez Hilton’ for college will no longer exist to entertain them and immorally allow them to secretly offend others.

But surprise, surprise- the second the college gossip site was shut down, another one was created: CollegeACB.com is the new upcoming replacement for JuicyCampus. The website has a few rules, such as requiring you to become a member in order to be able to comment or post topics [membership is free]. This puts restrictions on being unknown- in hopes that people would be nicer and more courteous when discussing one another. The CollegeACB website is build on the same concept as Juicy Campus, with a little touch of boundaries on foul behavior and a lighter negative connotation. Their mission statement states:

"The CollegeACB or College Anonymous Confession Board seeks to give students a place to vent, rant, and talk to college peers in an environment free from social constraints and about subjects that might otherwise be taboo."

Do you think the website will make it?

www.collegeacb.com

How To Sell Soap Through Viral Marketing

Big Haus Inmate

Unfortunately I live in shitty old Big Haus and when we were gone for winter break, the Big Haus RA’s went in our room practically looking for reasons to write us up. I got written up for having a completely empty, washed out, cleaned bottle of Red Label in my room. The bottle was purely decoration and was as small as a water bottle. I got written up on TWO offences. One for “not complying with the college alcohol policy” because I am not of legal drinking age just yet so apparently I can’t have ANY alcohol bottles in my room- even if theyre empty and even if theyre for decoration use only. Ridiculous. Not only that, but my roommate IS of age and according to college policy, she IS ALLOWED to have alcohol in the room, drink it in the room, and use the bottle for any kind of decoration she pleases.

The other offense was even more ludicrous.
