I recently realized that Cincinnati Reds have a mascot that looks very similar if not exactly like the New York Mets mascot, except Mr. Red has a mustache and Mr. Met does not(and is way cuter!) I was very confused when I saw this and decided to do some research to see which mascot came first and who was coping whom. To my disappointment I found out that Mr. Red was created first in 1955 BUT Mr. Met was the first human mascot to be used in American Sports which was in 1963. He was the first in-stadium mascot while Mr. Red was originally only a sleeve patch and was then removed a few seasons later. Mr. Red didn't reappear until 1999, way after Mr. Met was already the Mets mascot.In the 1960s, the Mets mascot occasionally appeared in print with a female version of him, Mrs. Met. How cute! Mr. Met has a wife.
And if a Mr. and Mrs. Met isnt already too adorable, they have three kids! Two children and one infant. The Mets mascot has a whole family!
All in all, the Mets might have gotten the idea of having a baseball for a head as their mascot but the Mets came up with Mr. Met all by themselves and even the idea of having a mascot for a baseball team all together. Mr Met is awesome and Mr Red is kind of ugly. The End!
{This is David Wright, Gary Sheffield, Omir Santos and Fernando Tatis after Santos' grand slam.}
As catcher Brain Schneider is out on the disabled list, Omir Santos was brought up from Buffalo (AAA) of the International League. His performance with the Mets is nothing less then impressive and successive. His first at bat with the Mets playing against the Brewers, the backup catcher hit a triple. But that was nothing compared to last nights game against the Marlins, 7-1 Mets. In the first inning, the Mets scored 6 runs! Santos hit his first big league home run which was also the Mets' first grand slam at Citifield!
After the Mets big win last night against the Marlins, the manager Jerry Manuel spoke to reporters about Santos:
“He does make it tough for us. We want to take a good look at him. We felt spring training was not really a good measuring stick for players… He has performed good here, so it will make for a tough decision in that sense. I like what he gives us… I think he handles the game plan very well. The pitchers like throwing to him. He gives them a good target, he gives the umpire a very good look at pitches. And, he also appears to have a short swing, which means he can put some balls in play and he doesn’t run badly for a catcher. So, those are some other things you can do with offensively that you’re somewhat limited to with some catchers.”
Whats going to happen on Friday when Brain comes back? Its hard to tell. Manuel is considering having three catchers on the roster which I find unnecessary and to be a fairly bad idea. My take on this is to sign Santos and have Castro as a backup. I have never been in favor of Castro, as his defense is weak. In an article on MLB.com, written by Anthony DiComo it says
"Castro's multitude of injuries throughout his Mets tenure have cast doubt on his ability to be an everyday catcher, in turn solidifying Schneider's position on the depth chart."
I love Schneider and I love Santos and I think that's all we need for our catchers. Castro doesnt bring anything phenomenal to the Mets and I think its time to let him go.
I just found out that Ryan Church, the left outfielder for the Mets is an Anti-Semite. I was totally shocked to hear this being that I am Jewish and a huge Mets fan. Also aside from the fact that Antisemitism is ridiculously inappropriate and discrimination should not be tolerated in professional baseball or anywhere for that matter. In 2005 when he played for the Washington Nationals, Church was quoted in the Washington Post, suggesting that Jews are headed for eternal damnation. Apparently, he confronted the baseball chaplain Jon Moeller, asking for advice about his Ex-girlfriend who was Jewish.
"I said, like, Jewish people, they don't believe in Jesus. Does that mean they're doomed? Jon nodded, like, that's what it meant. My ex-girlfriend! I was like, man, if they only knew. Other religions don't know any better. It's up to us to spread the word,"
Of course after he came out with an apology but in truth his words can't be taken back. Being that Church plays for the New York Mets and the vast majority of their fans are Jewish, he's just an idiot. He honestly isn't even that good! Aside from his remark being anti-Semitic, it's absurdly ignorant for him to say that. You can't play for a New York team, one of the most diverse cities out there and be so close-minded. His narrow religious beliefs should not be outspoken and he should go suck it! GET OUT OF NEW YORK! I never liked Church anyways...

Look, this was done late at night because I forgot about it, thankfully, it was at the same time I was working on the drawing I'm putting up this week that will be up later along with this post but for the sake of fulfilling some class agenda, here you go:
The Mets finished up their 3 game series against the Reds in Cincinnati yesterday, ending with 2-1 in wins/losses. The first game this Monday was cold and windy but Santana, Green, Putz and K-Rod led the Mets to win 2-1. The second game, Pelfrey was shaky right from the beginning of the game, pitching a wopping 44 pitching in just the first inning but was able to get it together and the Mets had another victory leaving the score at 9-7.
The third game was less impressive as Perez was nervous, giving up 5 walks, 5 hits and 8 runs to the Reds over his 4 1/3 innings. Out of the 100 pitches he pitched, 45% of them were balls. Comon Ollie!
The Mets pitching coach, Dan Warthen said;
"I thought we saw the good Ollie for two innings. We'd just like to see it for five or six,"
Jerry Manuel spoke about Perez's disappointing game:
"I was happy that we saw some glimpses of the old Ollie…Again, this is still an evaluating period, and it is also part of spring. So, I think he’ll be fine. I think there was enough there to say he’ll be OK; he just has to remain consistent and focus for a longer period of time, but that comes with being out there and getting extended. He should be OK… There are probably some things he missed in spring that he’s trying to work out.”
Below is the SNY.tv’s Post Game Extra that shows analysis from Ron, Keith and Gary from their loss to the Reds.
Despite yesterdays loss, winning 2 out of 3 games on the road is still very impressive and shows the mets are in impeccable shape this season. The Mets head down to Miami to play against the Marlins who are 3 for 3 this season and beat us out of the Playoffs last season. The game starts at 7:10 with Maine pitching up against Sanchez. What I'm really excited for is to see Hernandez pitch tomorrow! I'm happy that in the end it's not Pedro pitching. Lets sweep this series and finally have the first game at CitiField (tax-payers field) April 13. LETS GO METS!
My name is Sarah Anne Eisenman and I'm a sophomore at SUNY Purchase, majoring in Economics. I've started this blog simply because it's required for my Viral Marketing class. I'm a virgin blogger so this is all very new to me but I'll try and post as often as I can, with quality topics. I'll be discussing the Mets, my life as a student here at Purchase College, the economy, my viral marketing class, and topics I find fun and interesting that I would love to share with the world. I'm mainly trying to expand in social networking. Please feel free to comment on all my posts! I'm open for all and any kinds of conversation.
Stalk if you please.
Hope you enjoy.
