Ryan Church Is Anti-Semitic Or Just Ignorant?

I just found out that Ryan Church, the left outfielder for the Mets is an Anti-Semite. I was totally shocked to hear this being that I am Jewish and a huge Mets fan. Also aside from the fact that Antisemitism is ridiculously inappropriate and discrimination should not be tolerated in professional baseball or anywhere for that matter. In 2005 when he played for the Washington Nationals, Church was quoted in the Washington Post, suggesting that Jews are headed for eternal damnation. Apparently, he confronted the baseball chaplain Jon Moeller, asking for advice about his Ex-girlfriend who was Jewish.

"I said, like, Jewish people, they don't believe in Jesus. Does that mean they're doomed? Jon nodded, like, that's what it meant. My ex-girlfriend! I was like, man, if they only knew. Other religions don't know any better. It's up to us to spread the word,"

Of course after he came out with an apology but in truth his words can't be taken back. Being that Church plays for the New York Mets and the vast majority of their fans are Jewish, he's just an idiot. He honestly isn't even that good! Aside from his remark being anti-Semitic, it's absurdly ignorant for him to say that. You can't play for a New York team, one of the most diverse cities out there and be so close-minded. His narrow religious beliefs should not be outspoken and he should go suck it! GET OUT OF NEW YORK! I never liked Church anyways...

  2. The vast majority of Mets fans are Jewish? So like 80%? Also Ryan Church is batting .356 right now and that seems pretty good. He would be a pretty shitty anti-semite if his ex-girlfriend was Jewish I would think. Not too many Nazis dating Jews. Overall a poorly thought-out and written article.

  3. you're right. I should have directed this article more on Church being being ignorant and close minded, playing for a one of the most diverse cities.

  5. Sarah, take a deep breath and calm down. You can raise a bit of hell at the chaplain that nodded when Church asked,"Are they doomed?" but you would only know if Church was anti-semitic if the chaplain said,"No" and Church then argued the point. If you want to rail about a possible anti-semite and a Yankee to boot please feel free to tear Reggie Jackson a new one.I'm sure at Purchase you must deal with worse when Palestinian Sympathy Week(or whatever they call it)comes to campus or Manhattanville.

  6. Sarah,Noel here again.I looked around your blog because I wanted to see some of your view points on the economy because honestly,I was expecting the worse.I figured 20 year old Purchase student was going to tell me that a soft form of socialism was good for us but you suprised me(made me happy)with your defense of Santelli. How has it been in your economic classes, a lot of propaganda or professors sticking up for the Friedmans(Milt) of the world?I have the Met game on as I'm writing, they have Reed in again.I was hoping they would have Murphy at first tonight(where he probably belongs)but at least he is in left. They have to let him play.I do not like Sheffield(for many reasons)and when he was brought in I figured it would cut into Murphy's playing time(which it did).Ultimately,Manuel shakes up theline-up TOO much. The team needs stability, what a mish-mash we have now.OK,let's go Mets and good luck with school. Noel
