It was sad and tragic but yes, the world famous New York Mets got swept in their past three game series against the Dodgers. In our defense, the Dodgers have only lost three home games and have incredible defense. Additionally, we didn't have Reyes, Delgado or Cora. Hopefully we'll do better playing in Boston and possibly sweep the series? (Not to mention, hopefully we'll remember to touch third base!!!) Lets Go Mets!!!
My two year old nephew and four year old niece are on the playground, trying to sing the Mets theme song with each other. Really cute video! Must watch!!
Yeah, Ryan Church literally missed third base while he was running the bases! In the top of the 11th inning with two out, the poor Met ran over the base instead of on it, making the unearned run into an out. It was just humiliating and Church should feel ashamed. Below is the Post-Game Extra from SNY, where you could see Church and Jerry's reaction did the unbelievable error. Jerry comments:
"Uhh, a guy missed third base. That’s unbelievable. I can’t explain why or how or anything. But, he actually missed the base… To me, it’s just hard to miss third base. I’ve known some guys to miss first, because they’re looking for the ball and misstep, but I have rarely, I don’t know that I’ve ever seen a guy miss third base in a situation like that. I don’t know, I don’t have any explanation"
If the top of the 11th inning wasn't sad enough, the bottom of the inning definitely topped off the Mets embarrassment. 'Brian Stokes walked the lead-off hitter, who advanced to second the following play when Angel Pagan and Carlos Beltran did not communicate on a pop up that dropped between them for a hit. Jerry Manuel intentionally walked Juan Pierre, and then put Beltran on the infield next to second base, as the rest of the infield played in on the edge of the grass. Stokes got a weak pop up for one out, then got the desired hard ground ball to first, which could have been a double play, but Reed, who is not necessarily a skilled first baseman, and who made a nice scoop, chucked the ball low, wide and past Ramon Castro, letting the winning run score.' Beltran said of the error:
"I called for the ball like six times,But Pagan stood in the middle and I couldn't put my glove on the ball. On a ball like that, I have priority. If Pagan would have called for that ball, my job is to get out of the way. He's been in center field before, so he knows that when the center fielder calls for the ball, everyone has to get out of the way."
Even though we've lost the last two games, at least we're still in first place!! :)
With Carlos Delgado, Jose Reyes, Alex Cora, Tim Redding, Oliver Perez and Brain Schneider on the DL our line-up has been all sorts of funky for the last couple of games. Jerry has not been making the smartest positioning decisions for his players... I wonder who's going to take first base position. I really hope Jerry doesn't make the mistake and give it to Tatis who is nearly 40 instead of Murphy. Murphy needs to get out of the outfield and I think first base might just be the position for him. Lets see where this all goes...
Matthew Cerrone from Metblog.com was interviewed on SNY's Pregame Live yesterday. He basically said what most Mets fans don't want to admit- its difficult to have confidence in the extremely inconsistent team right now. The Mets blogger said:
"I don't really trust this team anymore because I really don't know what they're going to do from night to night. I know people like to say 'oh its early, its a long season' but I think deep down inside, for Mets fans, I don't know if we believe that anymore."
Matt runs a poll on his blog once a week on the fans confidence in the Mets and this week it was at a very low 50%. Sadly, he says he's not surprised to see this and I guess he's right. I'm not surprised to see our confidence drop for the Mets- I'm more just disappointed to see it.
The blogger also said that not surprisingly, fans have most confidence in Johan Santana. And another not so surprising poll taken from about 3000 people said 96% of them were most worried about Perez. I'm waiting for the day when Jerry finally sends him down to the AAA. He might have talent hidden away in him but right now hes not delivering and he doesn't belong in the Major Leagues. It won't be long until he is replaced. Penny for your thoughts- You think they might bring back up Neise?
My name is Sarah Anne Eisenman and I'm a sophomore at SUNY Purchase, majoring in Economics. I've started this blog simply because it's required for my Viral Marketing class. I'm a virgin blogger so this is all very new to me but I'll try and post as often as I can, with quality topics. I'll be discussing the Mets, my life as a student here at Purchase College, the economy, my viral marketing class, and topics I find fun and interesting that I would love to share with the world. I'm mainly trying to expand in social networking. Please feel free to comment on all my posts! I'm open for all and any kinds of conversation.
Stalk if you please.
Hope you enjoy.
